They, however, would not give away the names until the party’s central command approves them.

Thirty-two mayor aspirants for Baroiyarhat, Mirsarai, Sandwip, Sitakunda, Raojan and Rangunia municipalities were interviewed on Saturday, said AL Chittagong (North) President Nurul Alam Chowdhury.

“We have been able to pick single candidates in the municipalities after consulting all the aspirants. They all cooperated with us,” he told bdnews24.com.

Now, they will submit the names to the ruling party’s central office.

“Once approved at that level, the names will be announced,” Chowdhury added.

AL Presidium Member and Mirsarai MP Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Chittagong (North) AL General Secretary MA Salam and Sandwip MP Mahfuzur Rahman Mita, among others, were present during the interviews.

Dec 3 is the last date for filing the nominations for 236 municipalities that will go to polls on Dec 30.

The mayor candidates will be using their party symbols in the municipal polls to be held on party lines for the first time. The councillors, however, will be elected in non-party way as before.
