Khaleda meets allies, but no word on joining municipal elections

The BNP is yet to make an announcement if it will contest the municipality election, even after its Chairperson Khaleda Zia met the leaders of the allies.

Party spokesperson Asaduzzaman Ripon said after the meeting on Thursday that it would announce the decision ‘soon’.
 
He said the partners in the 20-Party coalition in the meeting left the decision up to Khaleda.
 
“They have put their faith in her,” Ripon said.
 
The Election Commission has announced the polls for 236 municipalities on Dec 30.
 
The balloting in the local government bodies will be held with mayor candidates nominated by parties for the first time.
 
The BNP will have to take a call on nominating candidates within Dec 3, the last day for tyhe submission of nomination papers. 
 
Ripon said the party would announce the decision before the deadline.
 
The mayor candidates of the party will fight the municipal polls with the party’s symbol ‘paddy sheaf’ if it takes part in the election.
