Several other senior leaders have been also told to attend the meeting scheduled for 8pm on Wednesday at her Gulshan office.

The meeting, the first since Khaleda’s return from London, is expected to discuss the upcoming municipality polls as well as the overall political scenario.

This is the first time that leaders of political parties will vie for mayoral positions in municipalities with party symbols, as in the instance of national elections, following the amendment to the local government election law.

However, candidates for councillors’ posts will have to use non-party symbols in the election.

The Election Commission has announced the schedule for polls in 234 municipalities with votings set for Dec 30.

Khaleda had left for London on Sep 15 for medical treatment. She returned on Nov 21 after spending the Eid Ul Azha with the families of her two sons.

After a two-day break in Dhaka, she went to her Gulshan office on Tuesday night.
