After resolving a previous rule over the BNP leader’s bail, the High Court bench of Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Md Khasruzzaman gave the order on Tuesday.

The decision means there are no more hurdles for Mirza Fakhrul’s release from jail, said his lawyer Sagir Hossain.

The BNP acting secretary general was in jail for six months after his arrest on Jan 6 amidst a BNP-led agitation marking the first anniversary of the January 2014 general election, which the party had boycotted.

The High Court granted him a six-month bail on Apr 16 in three cases relating to arson, vandalism, and bombing. The cases had been filed with the Paltan Police Station.

The High Court granted him bail again on June 18 in two other cases lodged with the same police station and the Motijeel Police Station until submission of the police report. The Supreme Court upheld the order.

On June 21, the High Court approved his bail in the three cases. But the Supreme Court’s Appellate Division cancelled them on Nov 3 and ordered Fakhrul’s health check-up following a state appeal.

The court gave him bail to facilitate his treatment after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Medical College submitted a health report on July 13.

The BNP leader first went first to Singapore and then the US for treatment.

His bail was extended twice, until Nov 2, to enable his treatment.

The appellate bench, headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, rejected his fresh petition for a third extension on Nov 2 and ordered him to surrender before the trial court. He was sent to jail again.
