Many of them also thanked the government in Parliament on Sunday afternoon for the hanging of the two former ministers in the early hours of the day.

Sheikh Hasina, who is also the leader of the House, was present during the session.

Chittagong-12 MP Shamsul Hoque Chowdhury said, “Yesterday (Saturday) evening, we thought this (execution) might get delayed.”

“But Sheikh Hasina has proved that she will break but not bend.”

Six-time MP Salauddin Quader was known as the wartime terror of Chittagong.  He was a minister in HM Ershad’s government.

Mujahid was never elected to Parliament but was the social welfare minister in Khaleda Zia’s coalition Cabinet.

Narayanganj-2 MP Md Nazrul Islam Babu said, “Today, Parliament is happy and excited. Good governance has been firmly established in Bangladesh. The daughter of Bangabandhu has kept her commitment.

“It has been proved that no will go scot-free after committing crimes nor unchallenged for any show of arrogance.”

Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, son of a Muslim League leader, was known for his arrogance and controversial remarks.

He often made derisive comments about the war-crime trials, claiming there were no war criminals in Bangladesh.

Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya on Sunday was ecstatic. “Today my happiness knows no bounds. The prime minister does what she says.

“Today I want to tell everyone loud and clear that as long as Sheikh Hasina is here no Razakar, Al-Badr and anti-Independence force will be able to raise their heads.”

He stressed how important it was for Hasina to remain in power in order to continue the on-going war crimes trials.

“There will be democracy and war criminals will be tried as long as Sheikh Hasina is there,” he said.
