Deputy Office Secretary Mrinal Kanti Das informed the media of the decision after Thursday’s Awami League Parliamentary Board meeting.

Former BCL organising secretary Hazari is also the former Kalihati Upazila chairman.

The Tangail-4 constituency fell vacant after five-time MP Abdul Latif Siddique stepped down last month.

Siddique’s anti-Hajj rant saw him lose his Cabinet berth and later being thrown out of the Awami League.

His brother and decorated freedom fighter Abdul Kader Siddiqui has hinted at joining the fray scheduled for Nov 10.

The BNP, which boycotted the 2014 national election, is not taking part in the by-polls.
Altogether, 17 aspirants had sought nomination from the Awami League. Party chief Hasina interviewed them on Tuesday.
Oct 11 is the last date for filing nominations, which will be scrutinised on Oct 13. Oct 21 is the last date for pulling out of the race.
The constituency has 277,847 voters – 136,347 male and 141,473 female.
Mymensingh’s election officer will be the poll returning officer. Tangail’s district election officer will be the assistant returning officer.
