The bench of Justice Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Zafar Ahmed on Thursday also scrapped an Oct 2 ruling that asked the government to explain how he became an MP.

The ruling was given on a writ petition filed by Bauphal Municipality Mayor Ziaul Huq Jewel.

In the petition, he claimed Feroz rescheduled his loan four days before submitting his nomination paper and the Bangladesh Bank approved it the next day.

Feroz was ineligible to contest the election according to Section 12(M) of the Representation of the People Order (RPO), it had said.

Jewel was represented by Rokan Uddin Mahmud, Azmalul Hossain QC, Kamrul Haque Siddique and M Mainul Islam.

M Amir-Ul Islam and Tania Amir represented Feroz.

Mainul Islam said, “The court has scrapped the petition. We will decide about the appeal once we get a copy of the full verdict.”

Feroz, elected six times from Patuakhali-2, has been in politics ever since he was a student.

He became MP for the first time in 1979 during the tenure of Ziaur Rahman’s BNP.

He joined Awami League after winning the 1986 election as an independent candidate.
