The party’s Standing Committee member MK Anwar, however, has managed to secure bail from another court, their lawyer Taherul Islam Towhid told bdnews24.com.

Also, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Adviser Abdul Awal Mintoo’s hearing in a case against him has been deferred since the case documents had not reached the court.

All of them had surrendered and pleaded for bail in different courts in the capital on Saturday morning.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Masud Sheikh heard BNP Joint Secretary General Aman’s bail plea in four cases and rejected it before sending him to jail.

The cases were filed with Wari Police Station last year on charges of vandalism, bomb blasts and obstructing police in performing their duties.

Of the 70 cases against him, Aman was granted bail in seven, said Towhid. The court did not hear eight of those cases as not all relevant documents had been submitted in court.

Hearings of these 62 cases were held through the day at the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court, Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court and Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court.

Meanwhile, MK Anwar had left for home after the CMM Court granted him bail.

The same court left Abdul Awal Mintoo’s case hearing pending when his counsels failed to submit the case papers.

The trio had surrendered before the courts on Saturday following a Supreme Court order given July 27, which also had cancelled the July 9 four-week anticipatory bails granted by the High Court.

The High Court had also given bail to another BNP leader, Tariqul Islam. The top court sustained it turning down the state’s plea to stay the bail.

All the cases were filed at different police stations across Dhaka during and after the violent three-month-long countrywide blockade and strikes enforced by the BNP and its allies.
