Standing Committee member MK Anwar, Adviser to Chairperson Abdul Awal Mintoo and Joint Secretary General Aman Ullah Aman filed bail petitions on Sunday after surrendering to court on cases of violence.

“The petitions have been submitted to the courts of chief metropolitan magistrate, chief judicial magistrate and the metropolitan sessions judge,” said the BNP leaders’ lawyer Sana Ullah Miah.

Aman filed bail for 70 cases, Anwar for 10 and Mintoo for nine.

The BNP leaders had secured anticipatory bail from the High Court in 52 cases, but the Supreme Court scrapped those on Jul 27 upon a petition by the state.

The apex court had then ordered the BNP leaders to surrender in trial court within a week.
