Joint General Secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak told a press conference Wednesday after the verdict on the BNP leader’s appeal that it fulfilled people’s long expectation.
“Justice and the rule of law have been established. The verdict is historic,” he said.
“The souls of 30,00,000 martyrs and 200,000 mothers and daughters who lost honour in the Liberation War will rest in peace after the verdict.
“It will also console and comfort the families of the martyred and injured freedom fighters,” Nanak said.
He thanked the witnesses who testified against Chowdhury, and the investigators and prosecutors.
“The war crimes trial will continue,” he said.
“Those who committed the crimes against humanity will be tried on the soil of Bangladesh, no matter what violence or plot the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami unleash or plan,” he said.
The Awami League leader also said the BNP had been the ‘sanctuary’ of war criminals since Ziaur Rahman founded the party.

“That’s why a ferocious man like Salauddin Quader gets the chance to do politics,” he said.
