He said the BNP chief was demanding elections under a caretaker government, a system that would never return.
Ahmed was speaking at a discussion held at the National Press Club on Monday.
“Nothing resembling a caretaker government will come either,” said Ahmed, the commerce minister and a member of ruling party’s Advisory Council.
He said if Khaleda wanted to take part in an election, she would have to do so in one that is held under Hasina’s government in 2019.
“You can keep trying (for snap polls). Your movements did not succeed in the past and won’t in future,” he said, directing his remark at Khaleda
On Saturday, the BNP chief broke with her long-held demand for general election overseen by a caretaker administration.
The former prime minister asked for a ‘fair election’ under a ‘neutral government’ or ‘whatever else it might be called’.
