Police arrest BNP student front Chhatra Dal president from Patuakhali

Police have arrested Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) President Rajib Ahsan and four others in Patuakhali with 45 Yaba pills and a bottle of hard liquor.

They were detained from Lebukhali pier at Dumki around 11pm on Sunday night, Assistant Superintendent of Police Md Saheb Ali Pathan told bdnews24.com.

Additional SP Md Foyez Ahmed told mediapersons at 2am on Monday that  Dumki OC Azam Khan Faruki led a police squad to arrest Ahsan after a tip-off that he was going to Kuakata with Yaba tablets.

Ahsan is wanted in several cases, he said..   

The police searched the private car, in which Ahsan and four others were returning to Dhaka and found 45 Yaba and a bottle of hard liquor in the vehicle.

“He has several cases against him in Dhaka,” Ahmed said but could not detail any specific case.

He said the JCD chief would be charged under the narcotics act.

JCD Office Secretary Abdus Sattar said Ahsan was returning to Dhaka from his village home in Barisal after visiting relatives in Patuakhali.

The others arrested were  Md Salahuddin, Syed Jasim Uddin, Saiful Islam and the car’s driver Ashim Hawlader. All of them hail from Barisal’s Mehendiganj.

Chhatra Dal is the student affiliate of BNP that enforced a three-month deadly blockade early this year.

Many leaders and activists of the party and its affiliates are charged with violence during the agitation.
