Raushon Ershad demands highest allocation for education

Leader of the Opposition Raushon Ershad has urged the government to make the highest allocation for education in the proposed national budget.

Taking part in the budget discussion, the Jatiya Party leader also proposed an extension to the age limit for job application from 30 years to 35 years.
 
She said, “Education is a very important sector; it should be given the maximum priority.”
 
She also said the government should ensure the quality of education maintained.
 
The proposed budget for the 2015-16 fiscal year has allocated some Tk 343.70 billion, or 11.6 percent of the total budget, for education and technology.

As for the break-up, Tk 171.03 billion have been earmarked for the education ministry, Tk 145.02 billion for primary and mass education, Tk 15.51 billion for the science and technology ministry, and Tk 12.14 billion for information and communication technology.
The opposition leader referred to the session problem prevailing in educational institutions and advised the government to extend the age limit for government jobs by five years to 35.
On hearing her speech, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina put her hand on to the head in an obvious sign of astonishment.
Raushon Ershad followed, “Honourable prime minister, don’t put your hand on the head. (I hope,) you will consider the proposal.”
She also criticised the budget for allocating ‘very little’ to the health sector.
