The Supreme Court’s Chamber Judge Justice Hasan Foez Siddique forwarded it to an appeals bench and fixed July 2 for hearing the matter.

“On Jun 21, the High Court granted interim bails in three cases to Mirza Fakhrul. The state filed separate pleas against the decision,

“The chamber judge did not issue a stay order and forwarded it to an appeal bench, which will hear it on July 2, which means the bail is still upheld,” said the BNP leader’s lawyer Sagir Hossain.

On Sunday, the Appellate Division upheld interim bails for the BNP leader in three other similar cases after hearing the state’s plea to stay them.

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul, who has been in jail since January, is now lodged in the prison cell of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

He was arrested on Jan 6 after a media briefing at the National Press Conference.  Later, the police showed him arrested in seven cases of violence involving arson, damage and explosion.

Failing to get bail in the trial court, Mirza Fakhrul’s lawyer moved the High Court.

On Jun 18, the BNP leader secured interim bails from the High Court in three cases out of the seven. The state appealed against the decision, which was turned down by the appeals court on Sunday.

The BNP leader was shifted from Kashimpur jail to BSMMU’s prison cell on Jun 13 upon the High Court’s order.
