Khaleda can even leave her own party, but not the side of Jamaat: Awami League
The Awami League’s Publicity Secretary Hasan Mahmud has said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia can even leave her party but not the side of her key ally Jamaat-e-Islami.

He said on Friday the 20-Party alliance leader’s joining an Iftar hosted by Jamaat the previous day indicated that she was with the ‘war criminals’.
Mahmud came down hard on the BNP chief at a programme, marking the 67th anniversary of Awami League, in Dhaka.
“The European Union openly told you (Khaleda) to leave the side of Jamaat. The whole world is saying so. Even leaders of your party are asking you as well,” he said.
“When you sit beside Jamaat despite the calls, we realise that you can even leave BNP but not Jamaat,” Mahmud said.
“She sat beside the war criminals and their collaborators to make them understand that she was with them.”
Khaleda attended the party at a Dhaka hotel amid widespread discussion that the BNP, under pressure at home and abroad to sever ties with the Islamist party, was not having the best of relations with Jamaat.
Mahmud criticised Zia’s earlier remark that ‘the country had become a police state’.
“In fact, Khaleda Zia doesn’t want that the petrol-bombers get arrested. So she said such thing,” he said
More than 150 people were killed in violence, half of them in fire-bombings and arson attacks, amid the blockade and shutdowns enforced by the BNP-led 20-Party coalition during the first three months of the year.
