She compared the ruling party to Muslim League in a programme at her office at Gulshan on Tuesday.
“They (Awami League) had been out of power for 21 years. They will face the fate of Muslim League if they leave the power now.

“Muslim League is broken into pieces, so will be Awami League,” Khaleda said.

Her comments five days after Food Minister Qamrul Islam said the BNP was going the Muslim League’s way.
“The BNP will disintegrate before the next national election and will become like the Muslim League,” the Awami League leader had said about its arch-rival  last Thursday.

Once the ruling party of Pakistan, the fragmented Muslim League now exists only on signboards and is a part of the BNP-led alliance.

The BNP chief urged all to join protests in order to force the government to announce election under a ‘neutral’ caretaker government.

“They know what their condition will be if a fair election is held. So, they don’t want vote. The Awami League must arrange for an election under a neutral government,” she said.

The former prime minister also asked the leaders and activists of her party to have patience.

“Democracy will have to be restored...It will be restored, but it will not take long,” she said.

Khaleda was addressing the pro-BNP lawyers, who won the Noakhali District Bar Council elections.

BNP Standing Committee Members Moudud Ahmed, M Jamiruddin Sircar, Supreme Court Bar Council President Khandaker Mahbub Hossain and General Secretary Mahbub Uddin Khokan were also present.
