BNP chief Khaleda charged in court again over firebombing of bus at Jatrabarhi

Police have again charged BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in court in the case for torching a bus and killing people at Jatrabarhi in Dhaka during a blockade.

Detective Branch Sub-Inspector Jahidul Islam filed the chargesheet with Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
 
The case was filed under the Special Powers Act.
 
Court Police’s Sub-Inspector Ujir Ali told bdnews24.com that 37 other leaders and activists of BNP were also named in the chargesheet.
 
On May 6, detectives filed the chargesheet of the murder case over the same incident.
 
All named in the latest chargesheet had also been named in the murder case chargesheet, Ujir Ali said.
 
The court will hear whether the chargesheet of the murder case will be taken into cognisance on May 28, Ujir Ali said.

After the BNP chief called blockade on Jan 5 demanding snap general elections, firebombing of vehicles across Bangladesh started.

On Jan 23, a bus of Glory Paribahan was firebombed at Jatrabarhi. The incident left 30 people burned.

Of them, contractor Noor Alam succumbed to his injuries later.

Jatrabarhi Police Station SI KM Nuruzzaman filed two cases against 69 people, including Khaleda who faces charge of instigating the attack.

The 37 others named in the chargesheets include senior leaders MK Anwar, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Amanullah Aman, Barkatullah Bulu and Khandker Mahbub Hossain.
