Ahmed, who was recently arrested in the Indian state of Meghalaya, continues to receive treatment at the Shillong Civil Hospital with no improvement in his health condition.

Hasina arrived in Kolkata on Sunday evening on an Air India flight.

Tabith Mohammad Awal, who lost last month’s Dhaka North City Corporation mayoral election, has reached Shillong along with several of his associates to visit Ahmed.

Doctors on Sunday conducted a few more tests on his kidney, the results of which will be available on Monday.

But, they are declining comment on Salahuddin's apparent memory loss.

BNP Assistant Office Secretary Abdul Latif Jony, who is currently in Shillong, told bdnews24.com by telephone that there was no improvement in Salahuddin's health condition.

The kidney infection was causing him severe backache. Jony had earlier also said that the ailing Ahmed has not been able to recall much.

“I can see some memory loss on his part,” he added.

But the Meghalaya police are keeping a close watch on how Salahuddin is responding to treatment through his doctors.

When asked about Tabith's arrival in Shillong on Sunday, Jony said that he was not a BNP leader, but only a party supporter.

He said that although he had heard of Tabith's arrival in Shillong, they had not met.

When asked about the prospect of having Salahuddin shifted to a better hospital with advanced treatment facilities, he said it may not be possible at the moment.

The party aide further said they would discuss the matter with a senior lawyer after the arrival of Salahuddin's wife and proceed with the legal process.
