“He has been found after more than two months. We are thanking god. Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah,” BNP spokesman Assaduzzaman Ripon said on Wednesday. It was the party’s first reaction since the resurfacing of its leader.
Ripon avoided making any further comments, despite repeated queries from journalists, saying Salahuddin’s wife Hasina Ahmed had already given a reaction and they had nothing else to say.
Even last week, the party chief, Khaleda Zia, claimed that the Rapid Action Battalion was involved in Salahuddin’s mysterious disappearance.
The ruling Awami League has been maintaining that Salahuddin’s disappearance was actually BNP’s internal matter and that it was deliberately trying to create an issue out of it.
However, BNP did not comment on the incident after he was found ‘loitering’ at Shillong in Meghalaya.
Khaleda, despite being very vocal on the issue previously, did not say a word about it during a programme at her office on Tuesday.
Awami League claimed that Salahuddin resurfacing after two months proved that he was actually in hiding.
Salahuddin Ahmed told Indian law enforcers that he did not know how he surfaced in the mountainous state capital and claimed that unidentified group of people from Uttara in capital Dhaka kidnapped him on the night of Mar 10.
