BNP Joint Secretary General Ahmed, who had gone ‘missing’ two months ago, was arrested in India’s Meghalaya on Monday and the news broke on Tuesday.
His family had alleged plainclothes policemen had picked him up from a house at Uttara in Dhaka, an allegation the police and other law-enforcing agencies denied.
“All of this just shows that this entire episode was a stage managed drama by the BNP to try and discredit our Awami League Government,” Joy wrote on his Facebook wall on Tuesday.
“His wife, who has been making a lot of noise in the media claiming he was abducted by undercover police, stated she spoke with him shortly after she met with Khaleda Zia today,” he wrote in the post.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son also slated rights organisations Odhikar and Human Rights Watch for speaking for Ahmed.
“This entire incident really discredits them, especially as they have been very vocal on reporting Salahuddin’s disappearance to the international media,” he wrote.
“I wonder how many other cases of their alleged “forced disappearances” are also such stage managed dramas,” he went on.
“BNP is known to lie. Odhikar and Human Rights Watch just lost credibility,” he added.
