However, the jail authorities said the 68-year-old has not suffered any injury in Sunday’s incident.

Former minister Hossain, arrested in a money laundering case, was shifted to Kashimpur jail in June last year. He has been granted the facilities given to a VIP inmate.

Kashimpur’s Jailor Md Faridur Rahman Rubel said the jail’s doctor examined him shortly after he had fallen.

Doctor Md Shahadat Hossain told bdnews24.com that the BNP leader had felt dizzy. “He’s not injured. He’s okay,” the doctor said.

BNP Standing Committee Member Hossain taught at Dhaka University before joining politics.

The former BNP MP from Comilla was a member of Khaleda Zia’s 1991 and 2001 cabinet.
