After visiting the grave at Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Thursday, BNP Standing Committee Member Mahbubur Rahman told reporters that miscreants broke 11 marble tiles placed around the grave at night.

“Forces that are against the (spirit of) Liberation War and independence have done this,” he said.

The structures around Ziaur Rahman’s grave at Chandrima Udyan were vandalised on Wednesday night.

Police could not identify those responsible for the incident.

Cleaners found the marble tiles broken early in the morning on Thursday and informed the BNP office.

Former army chief Gen Rahman, Kalyan Party Chairman Syed Muhammad Ibrahim, Muktijoddha Dal President Ishtiak Aziz Ulfat and several other leaders visited the site after getting the information.
He said the miscreants disrespected the spirit of the Liberation War by ‘desecrating’ the grave of Ziaur Rahman, who was a Sector Commander during the war against Pakistan in 1971.
“We want to make it clear that we will not allow such desecration of Ziaur Rahman’s grave,” he said.
The BNP leader demanded an investigation into the incident and the arrest of those responsible for the vandalism.
