She admitted to journalists on Sunday, “I am not eligible to vote in city corporation polls. I am a voter of Dhaka Cantonment, which is not under the city corporation.”

Khaleda used to be in a house on Shaheed Moinul Road in Dhaka Cantonment when the voters’ list was updated in 2008.

The house was leased to her as the wife of former president and military strongman Ziaur Rahman.

The allocation was scrapped in 2010, forcing her to relocate to Gulshan’s Road 79.
An Election Commission official told bdnews24.com areas under the Cantonment Board did not come within the city corporation jurisdiction. Since she is a voter of Moinul road, she will not be able to vote in the city polls.
Khaleda took to the streets campaigning for BNP-backed candidates since Apr 18. Her canvassing was often hindered and her vehicle attacked more than once.
She was also warned by the Election Commission, which said her motorcade was hampering traffic and violating the code of conduct.
