The bench of Justice Md Ruhul Quddus will hear bail pleas in two cases filed by police on Monday, the High Court’s Additional Registrar Sabbir Foyez told bdnews24.com on Sunday.

Meanwhile, another HC bench is expected to hear a third bail plea in a graft case involving the Dhaka South mayor aspirant on Monday.

Abbas has been not seen in public for the last three months until Apr 13 when he came to the High Court to file the petitions.

He has been not seen since then while his wife Afroza Abbas has hit the campaign trail from the very beginning.

The case filed with Dhaka’s Paltan police in December 2014 accuses the senior BNP leader of being involved in incidents of arson and explosions, while another case, lodged with the Motijheel police on Jan 4, was under the Explosives Act.

The third case, filed by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) over irregularities in land allotment, does not name the BNP leader, but he nonetheless sought bail fearing arrest.

On Apr 15, the bench of Justices Quamrul Islam Siddique and Gobinda Chandra Tagore gave a split order on bail pleas in the two cases filed by police.

The senior judge granted a three-week bail while the other judge rejected the petition.

Following the split order, Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha assigned a new bench to hear the petitions.
