In a press briefing of the 14-Party Coalition led by Awami League on Saturday, he referred to a speech by BNP leader Mahbubur Rahman delivered on Friday and said the speech was a prove of BNP’s intention to turn army into a controversial force.

“What do they really want?” Nasim asked.

The Election Commission had decided to deploy army in the Apr 28 polls to the three city corporation polls in Dhaka and Chittagong but later said the army would leave the cantonment only if the returning officers want.

The BNP, which wanted judicial powers for the army, slated the EC, saying the step to deploy army is ‘eyewash’.

It said the EC changed the decision following the government’s directive.
