Nagorik Committee Co-chairman Nayeem Uddin Chowdhury said Nasir’s supporters faced obstruction from the Shibir activists while campaigning at Chittagong College on Monday afternoon.

Shibir, the student front of the Jamaat-e-Islami, has long dominated the institution.

Police recently recovered firearms from residential halls of the college.

Nayeem told bdnews24.com several students of Chittagong Medical College went to Chittagong College to campaign for Nagorik Committee candidate Nasir.

“Shibir men stopped them on the road between the college hall and parade ground. They snatched the leaflets from the campaigners and forced them out of the campus,” he added.

Nayeem said they had informed police and Election Commission of the incident.

“We’ll lodge a written complaint and take all legal action. Election code of conduct prohibits obstruction of anyone’s campaign.”

Chawkbazar Police Station OC Atik Ahmed Chowdhury said they had received a complaint regarding the incident and were trying to identify those responsible.

Shibir leaders could not be reached immediately for their version.
