He has demanded legal action against Khaleda to ensure the sanctity of the city polls.
At a rally near the Press Club on Tuesday, he said those affected by Khaleda Zia’s blockade agitation had tried to dissuade her from campaigning by showing black flag and staging protests.
“Her (Khaleda) provocative speech at Karwan Bazar on Monday caused people to protest. Khaleda’s security force fired on them, creating an untoward situation.”
Bangladesh Awami Muktijodhha Projonmo League held a rally demanding Khaleda’s arrest.
On Monday Khaleda Zia was attacked while campaigning at Karwan Bazar for her party-backed candidate for the city corporation poll.
Towards the end of her speech, a group of men protested. People from the surrounding building threw stones at her vehicle, injuring her security personnel and reporters.
Khaleda escaped from the scene unharmed but her vehicle window was shattered.
As her motorcade proceeded toward FDC, a group of men chased it with sticks.
The BNP has called a nationwide general strike on Wednesday barring Dhaka and Chittagong in protest against the incident.
However, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has described the incident as a Khaleda Zia scripted ‘drama’.
An AL leader filed a case against Khaleda’s personal security force and her party members in connection with the fracas.
Hasan Mahmud said, “In the name of campaigning Khaleda Zia is only provoking the people to protest. She wants to spoil the city poll by creating unseemly situations.”
He demanded the government and the election commission take legal measures against the ‘shooter’ and the BNP chief for delivering a ‘provocative’ speech.
