The Awami League senior leader in a meeting held at the Secretariat on Sunday said:  “Finally she has accepted her mistake of boycotting the Jan 5 election and has engaged herself in city poll campaigning.”

BNP called for an indefinite nationwide blockade after being barred from holding a party rally on the anniversary of the tenth parliamentary election on Jan 5.

Amid the blockade, the BNP chief spent three months in her Gulshan office.

Meantime the court issued an arrest warrant for her. On the 92nd day, she appeared before court and then returned home.

BNP-led alliance’s agitation that included arson, vandalism and hurling of petrol bombs claimed over 130 lives and left thousands burnt and injured.

Talking off the violence, Tofail Ahmed said, “After 92 days she (Khaleda) surrendered to the court, left the party office and returned to her home. She is now campaigning on the streets for the city polls from her Naya Paltan office, but the cry in the burn units has not stopped.”

On the day of Bengali New Year Khaleda introduced Dhaka North and South mayoral candidates, Mirza Abbas and Tabith Awal. Later on Saturday, she visited Gulshan, Badda and a number of areas of Dhaka North campaigning for Tabith.

However, the AL advisory council member Ahmed is not convinced that her campaigning will help the BNP.

“She (Khaleda) has instigated violence, killed people, now it doesn’t matter how hard she tries by visiting door to door, the people will respond to her terrorism, militancy and sabotage acts through voting.” He said.

After meeting with the ambassador of China in Bangladesh at the Secretariat, the commerce minister talked to the reporters.

Considering China’s interest in investing to Bangladesh, he said that they would be given space in the special economic zone.

The government has identified 17 locations for setting up special economic zone, which are to be allocated to foreign investors permanently.
