BNP chief Khaleda Zia campaigns for party-backed Dhaka North mayor aspirant

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has hit the campaign trail for a second day at the capital’s Uttara for her endorsed mayor aspirant Tabith Mohammed Awal.

She had campaigned for Awal, who is running for the Dhaka North City, on Saturday at Gulshan, Banani, Mohakhali, Badda.

Ahead of the city polls slated for Apr 28, she campaigned in northern Dhaka’s Uttara on Sunday afternoon.

Meanwhile, ruling Awami League supporters gathered in Uttara’s Sector 1, waving black flags as Khaleda’s motorcade passed through the area.

Blaming the BNP chief for the violence over the last three month, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had earlier urged the people to seek Khaleda’s explanation on the matter wherever she goes.

Khaleda, flanked by party Vice Chairperson Selima Rahman, campaigned at various Uttara shopping malls.

According to local BNP leaders, the former prime minister is set to campaign in different parts of the Uttara Model Town.  
 
Khaleda can campaign for the BNP-backed aspirants while Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Opposition Leader Raushon Ershad are bound to stay away due to the electoral code of conduct.
 
Relaxing her anti-government movement, Khaleda first publicly showed interest in the city polls on Apr 14 when she urged the people to stage a ‘silent revolution through ballots’.
 
She had officially introduced the BNP-supported Dhaka North mayor aspirant Tabith Awal and Dhaka South’s Mirza Abbas that day.
