The BNP chief broke down while offering prayers at the grave.

Khaleda was accompanied by members of the family and senior party leaders and drove back home afterwards.

Coco, arrested in 2007 by the military-controlled emergency government and later released on bail, died from a cardiac arrest in Malaysia on Jan 24.

His body was flown back home on Jan 27 when Khaleda had the last glimpse of her son at her Gulshan office where she was staying at the time.

She did not leave the building - where she lived for three months since Jan 3 - for Coco's burial.

Khaleda finally left the office on Sunday, turned herself in to the court and got bail in two graft cases, The former prime minister then went back home after 92 days, ending a three-month political  drama marked by massive violence and over 100 deaths.

Khaleda's detractors had earlier criticised her for not visiting her son's grave.

He, along with his wife and their two daughters, went to Malaysia in July 2008 for medical treatment after securing bail.

Coco, carrying a six-year jail term on his head for smuggling millions of taka out of Bangladesh, had lived with his family in Kuala Lumpur since then.
