His father, too, filed form to fight for the same post.

His lawyer Sajjadul Islam collected the form on Tabith’s behalf on Sunday noon and submitted it in the afternoon.

Sunday is the last day for filing nominations.

Hours after Tabith’s form had been collected, Mintoo’s sons Tafsir Mohammed Awal and Tajwar Mohammed Awal submitted nomination form of their father.

They collected the paper on Wednesday.

Mintoo, a former president of the apex business body FBCCI, was arrested in 2013 ahead of the general elections. He is an accused in several cases of vandalism.

After collecting his nomination form, Tafsir told reporters that they were concerned over the fairness of the city polls. He said they would talk to the Election Commission over the matter.

Ruling Awami League has already announced to support two candidates of the polls to the two city corporations in Dhaka.
BNP is yet to take decision on the matter. Its Chittagong unit announced it will back former mayor M Manjur Alam.
BNP Financial Affairs Secretary Abdus Salam and Dhaka city unit Convener Mirza Abbas are among the BNP leaders who collected nomination forms to fight for the mayor’s post of Dhaka South City Corporation.
Mintoo’s eldest son Tabith is deputy chief executive of Multimiode Group. He is the vice president of Bangladesh Football Federation.
