Following a meeting at the residence of Mohiuddin on Sunday, Nasir said, “Chittagong Awami League Adviser’s Council member Ishaq Mia will head the campaign committee and ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury will be the member secretary.”

Earlier, Mohiuddin had announced to support and run the campaign for Nasir despite a group of agitated party leaders demanding Mohiuddin as a candidate.

Mohiuddin, former Chittagong mayor for three terms had wanted to run for the position of Chittagong Mayor one last time.

However, Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina in a meeting on Friday declared Nasir as the party's choice to run for Chittagong City Mayor and asked the party members to support him.

During the meeting, Nasir asked Mohiuddin to hold the post of Chairman of the campaign committee.

In reply, Mohiuddin said, “Ishaq Mia is a senior leader and a man of high respect. He should remain the Chairman.”

At the end of the discussion, Nasir announced a media briefing on Monday at the Engineers’ Institute to discuss campaign plans where Mohiuddin would also be present.

After a series of meetings with party members and leaders, Nasir said he would submit the nomination documents onMar 29 following an extended meeting with the party members on Mar 27.

“The election campaign committee would include three port city MPs and two more from Sitakunda and Hathazari. Separate committee would be formed at thana or police station levels headed by the MPs. The central campaign committee would consist of 501 members.”

Nasir in response to a question said he would begin the campaign once the poll symbol has been fixed.

He emphasised on running the campaign according to the city corporation’s election agenda.

Mohiuddin added, “This is a local election. Five million people in Chittagong are hopeful about it. I have designed my plans in such a way so that he wins.”
