59 collect nomination papers for Chittagong city polls 

Two mayoral aspirants and 57 wishing to fight for councillors’ seats in the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) polls have collected their nomination papers on the first day the issuing began.

Those who took the papers on Thursday included some present councillors backed by the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and Awami League.
 
Of them, 54 are male and three are female.
 
Those taking the papers for the post of mayor were Bangladesh Nationalist Front’s Secretary General Arif Moinuddin and Gazi Md Alauddin.
 
BNP-backed councillors expressed eagerness to take part in the polls when contacted after the announcement of schedules on Wednesday.
 
Meanwhile, the Election Commission asked the CCC chief executive to make the aspiring candidates removed their billboards and posters by Saturday midnight.
 
They were being informed about the decision through loudspeaker announcements.
 
Returning Officer Abdul Baten said candidates failing to comply would face legal action.
