Hasina Ahmed, a former BNP MP, told bdnews24.com that her husband was taken away from a house in Uttara, north Dhaka.

Salahuddin has been purportedly issuing media statements on his party’s behalf from an undisclosed location after most of the senior BNP leaders were arrested.

However, both RAB and police’s Detective Branch spokespersons have denied arresting or detaining Salahuddin.

The former Cox’s Bazar MP had served as an assistant private secretary to former prime minister Khaleda Zia during her 1991-96 term when he was a junior civil servant.

Meanwhile, the BNP has demanded Salahuddin’s release.

BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan, who is staying with party chief Khaleda Zia at her Gulshan office, claimed “security forces also arrested two domestic helps” along with Salahuddin.

He alleged the BNP leader was “arrested” as he was announcing programmes on behalf of the BNP-led alliance.
