Sengupta, Chairman of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, says such behaviour amounted to contempt of court.

“She insulted the law thinking she’s above it...such acts are unforgivable,” he told a discussion in Dhaka on Friday.

A Dhaka court issued an arrest warrant for Khaleda last month in two corruption cases as she skipped hearings.

Last Wednesday, the court upheld the warrant in her absence.

The BNP chairperson has been staying at her Gulshan office for two months now as her party-led alliance enforces a crippling blockade throughout Bangladesh.

The death toll has climbed over hundred.

Sengupta urged the government to execute the court’s orders.

“The government has to carry out court orders if it respects the law... The law must be allowed to run its course.

“Everyone must abide by the top court’s orders, defying them is an unforgivable offence,” he said.
