During an unscheduled discussion in Parliament on Wednesday, he demanded Khaleda’s ‘exemplary punishment’ for ‘disrespecting’ the national flag.

Osman said, “Foreign envoys went to her (Khaleda) residence yesterday (Tuesday). We saw the national flag behind her on television.”

“Under which warrant of precedence she is using the national flag? She can’t use it. I’m demanding punishment to her for disrespecting the national flag before foreigners,” he added.

Oman sought explanations from the government on the matter.

Earlier, independent MP Rustam Ali Farazi demanded Cabinet Division explanations on the use of the national flag on the vehicle of Narayanganj Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy.

Referring to newspaper reports, he said, “According to warrant of precedence, a city corporation mayor can’t use the national flag in his or her car.”

“There is a decision of the Cabinet Division on the matter. Moreover, there is Flag Rules of 1972,” he added.

Farazi sought ‘specific directions’ from the local government ministry, Cabinet Division and the prime minister on the issue.
