“Law enforcers are charged with enforcing the arrest warrant issued by the court,” he said on Tuesday in a programme in Chandpur.

The ruling party’s joint general secretary said they expected law enforcers to complete due process and arrest her at the appropriate time.

The warrant for the BNP chief was issued last week after she failed to appear in the hearing of Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases on successive dates.

She has been staying in her office for two months since calling for indefinite strike from Jan 5 demanding interim polls under a non-partisan government.

A Dhaka court has already endorsed search of the Gulshan office by the police as there could be explosives and wanted people in there.

Rumours are that the BNP chief can be picked up within Wednesday when the next hearing of the cases are scheduled.

A number of AL leaders, including ministers, urged Khaleda to attend Wednesday’s hearing. But her lawyers have hinted that she might not.

They appealed the court on Tuesday for withdrawal of the warrant claiming that Khaleda could not come to the court as there were ‘security issues’. The plea will be heard on Wednesday.

The AL spokesman also trashed of any dialogue with the BNP-led alliance and said the ongoing tumultuous political situation will calm soon.

“When a major political party in the country gets involve in criminal activities, it takes a while to bring it under control. The government has already managed to leash it in. It will come under full control soon.”
