Khaleda deserves to be in jail: Inu

Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu has said the only way to put an end to the ongoing violence, in which people are being burnt to death, is to "exile BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia from politics".

Speaking to reporters in Kushtia on Saturday, he said the BNP chief, who is burning people to death in the name of an agitation, deserved to be in jail for and not at any negotiation table.

His comments came a day after the BNP alleged the government was plotting to arrest Khaleda to expel her from politics.

At least 35 people have been killed and over a hundred others injured in blockade-related violence since Khaleda called it on Jan 5 to press for a dialogue over a snap election.

Businesses have been decrying the agitation and calling for peace.

"Khaleda Zia, who burns people to death, does not deserve a place on the dialogue table but in jail," Inu said.
