Acting Secretary General of BNP Fakhrul told a press briefing at party chief Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan offices on Saturday that the party was ‘angry and frustrated’ over the ‘irresponsible’ comment of Kamal.

“Our state minister for home affairs dismissed the incident as a rumour while the people across the country were anxious over the news,” Fakhrul said.

“The authorities involved in the rescue said there was no sign of Jihad’s existence in the pipe,” he said.

The briefing was held after a meeting of the general secretaries of the 20-party alliance headed by BNP.

Locals pulled out the body of Jihad around 3pm on Saturday after a 23-hour rescue operation by the authorities.

The firemen closed the rescue operation claiming that there was no sign of Jihad’s existence in the pipe.

Fakhrul also sympathised with the family of Jihad.
