Judge Anwar Sadat of Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court dropped the case on Wednesday after the complainant remained absent in five hearings , said defence lawyer Jainal Abedin Mesbah.
Fakhrul described former junior Law Minister Qamrul Islam as 'mentally sick' and ‘crazy’ at a discussion in the National Press Club in July, 2010.
Bangabandhu Foundation President Lawyer Abdul Malek filed the case against Fakhrul .
The BNP leader appeared in court on Wednesday and his lawyers appealed for acquittal in the case.
“The judge has verbally ordered scrapping the case because the complainant was regularly absent.” lawyer Mesbah told bdnews24.com.
