BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir spoke to the reporters while visiting film director Chashi Nazrul Islam, who is under treatment at Labaid hospital on Tuesday.

“The government is speaking of organising DCC elections now having not hold them for such a long time. They are using this as a ploy to divert public attention from the democratic movement,” Fakhrul said.

Unconfirmed reports say Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked the local government ministry at Monday's regular Cabinet meeting to the arrange elections.
However, the Cabinet secretary did not say anything regarding this at the press briefing.
Fakhrul said, “The poll issue has been raised when the people are engaged in a democratic movement. We want to make it clear that these ploys will not work.”
