The BNP chairperson made the claim on Sunday while paying tributes to Nur Hossain who died in the anti-autocracy movement in the 1990s.

Khaleda said Hossain sacrificed for democracy but his dream was yet to come true.

Hossain was shot dead on Nov 10, 1987 at Dhaka's Bangabandhu Avenue during anti-Ershad movement.

In a statement, Khaleda said Hossain was an inspiration in movements to free democracy.

"Democracy which was freed in the '90s has been chained again. Now, there's a conspiracy to banish it forever," she said.
A plot to revive one-party rule through a one-sided election was becoming clear, she added.
"We must thwart this autocratic force at any cost," the BNP chief said.
The BNP-led alliance boycotted the Jan 5 polls demanding a non-party body's supervision paving way for the Awami League to retain office for a second successive term.
It has dubbed the Awami League-led government "an illegal one" and demanding a snap election.
The ruling party has rejected the BNP's demand and suggested it to prepare for the next national polls due in five years.
