But it had written to the DMP on Oct 27, seeking clearance for a rally at the Suhrawardy Udyan on Nov 7 to mark the ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’.

It is not yet clear why the party wants to defer its planned programme.

Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Wednesday informed bdnews24.com of their move.

BNP founder Ziaur Rahman became the army chief after the assassination of Bangladesh's founding father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Aug 15, 1975.

He was put under house-arrest after an army revolt led by Sector Commander Khaled Mosharraf.

However, Zia was freed and put at the centre of power through a counter revolt led by another Sector Commander Col Taher on Nov 7.

The ruling Awami League observes Nov 7 as a day of 'killing of soldiers and freedom fighters' while the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal marks it as the day of civilian-military revolution.
