But none of the participants of Monday's meeting, held at the BNP's Naya Paltan headquarters, said whether they had found a solution.

A faction of the JCD has been agitating since Oct 14 after party chief Khaleda Zia approved the committee.

They have demonstrated at Naya Platan, clashed with new committee members and vandalised a statue of party founder Ziaur Rahman.

BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas said, "Chhatra Dal is a big organisation. There can be some issues in a large organisation."

The Dhaka Metropolitan BNP convenor hoped the problem would be sorted out soon.

Apart from Abbas, BNP's Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Juba Dal President Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Student Affairs Secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie and Deputy Secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku attended the meeting.

Fakhrul had met agitating JCD leaders on Sunday and assured them of taking their issue to the party chief before the protesters called off their demonstration for the day.

Meanwhile, the new committee's President Rajib Ahsan and General Secretary Akramul Hasan came to their Naya Paltan headquarters on Monday along with their supporters.
