He said at a programme in New York on Tuesday evening (local time) that political stability was essential to maintain Bangladesh’s current economic growth. “For this, all the parties should give priority to national interest.”

The event was held by the Bangladesh Students Association, an organisation of the Bangladeshi students studying in Baruch College in New York’s Manhattan.

The finance minister was the main speaker at the seminar titled “Insight into Bangladesh's economy” held at the college’s Engelman Recital Hall.

Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to United Nations AKA Momen also spoke.

Highlighting various aspects of Bangladesh’s growth, Muhith said, “Transparency and accountability have been fixed in various financial sectors. Continued economic growth of Bangladesh has been possible due to restoration of fiscal discipline in financial institutions.”

“At present there is almost no violence in Bangladesh. If the present trend continues, the country’s economic progress will get further momentum,” he added.
