The NDP is one of the members of the BNP-led 20-Party alliance.

It has threatened to leave the alliance if its demand is not met within the stipulated time frame.

It made the demand at a briefing by NDP Secretary General Alamgir Majumder at a Dhaka hotel on Saturday.

He said that the party's National Executive Committee relieved its Chairman Golam Mortaza Khandaker of his responsibilities and made him the acting chairman.

On Aug 24, a faction of National People's Party led by its chief Sheikh Showkat Hossain Nilu left the BNP-led coalition.

Another constituent, the NAP (Bhashani) left the alliance before the Jan 5 polls.

BNP leaders have been alleging that the government is conspiring to create rift within the alliances in an effort to thwart their movement.
