Paltan police OC Morshed Alam said the former BRTC chairman was detained from in front of Mehrab Plaza on Monday evening in a case filed by one Ruhul Arefin on Sep 11.

The BNP leader was taken to the DB office after his arrest.

According to case details, Arefin had leased the basement of the Bangladesh National Federation of the Deaf building at Bijoy Nagar for 60 years in 1986.

Khondekar is the president of this organisation.
Arefin claimed he was yet to get full possession of the basement and moved the court.
The case's advertisement was put on the building.
Sub-Inspector Ohiduzzaman, investigating the case, said the plaintiff claimed Khondekar and his men took off the notice and threw Arefin’s goods out of the basement on Sep 11.
The BNP leader has an office at Mehrab Plaza.
However, accountant of the National Federation of the Deaf, Majnu Sheikh told reporters that Arefin had not paid the organisation Tk 30,044 as monthly rent after he had rented the basement for 20 years.
He claimed the tenant had filed the case against Khondekar so that he did not have to pay the rent.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has condemned the arrest dubbing it "politically motivated" and demanded his immediate release.
