Join agitation to stop enforced disappearances, murders: Khaleda

BNP chief Khaleda Zia has urged the people to thwart the "ongoing festival of enforced disappearances and murders" by joining the anti-government agitation.

In a statement late on Sunday night, issued on the occasion of the party's 36th founding anniversary, she expressed concerns over the law and order.

She claimed the law and order was deteriorating in Bangladesh and said the BNP could not be a mere spectator.

The former prime minister asked her supporters to join the BNP in its demonstration for an election under a non-party body to "establish a democratic" government.

The party will mark its founding through a host of programmes.

Khaleda will place wreaths on the grave of her husband Ziaur Rahman, the party founder. A discussion will be held at the Institution of Engineers on Monday afternoon.

Zia founded the party on Sept 1, 1978.

In her statement, Khaleda highlighted the role of Zia and her party in Bangladesh's development, which she said people lauded.
