Spokesperson Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged Hasina to "stop such mudslinging".

He reacted to the prime minister's recent comments on the party chief at a photo exhibition on Sunday, a day before the party's founding anniversary.

Fakhrul claimed Hasina was "attacking" her arch political rival Khaleda out of "nervousness".

"They (the government) are so nervous that the prime minister is calling the person who was the prime minister thrice (Khaleda) mentally disturbed," he said.

Hasina had dubbed Khaleda a person with a "sick mentality" for celebrating her birthday on Aug 15, the National Mourning Day.

She also called the BNP chief a "murderer" because of her party's violent campaigns and alleged that she had a hand in the Aug 21, 2004 grenade attack on an Awami League rally.

Responding to the criticisms, Fakhrul said, "The highest court called you (Hasina) 'wrong-headed'.

"So, I'd like to request you to stop this mudslinging and obscene statements devoid of political etiquette and start working on solving people's problems."
