Party Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Friday confirmed bdnews24.com of not getting permission from Dhaka Metropolitan Police for the programme.
He, however, did not specify whether human-chain programme was suspended.
“Details about the human-chain programme will be disclosed at the press conference as police permission has not been given,” he said.
The party had plans to form a human chain around 11am.
As BNP convened a press conference at the same time, several leaders think the human-chain programme has been called off.
Rizvi told bdnews24.com on Friday night: “An urgent press conference on the matter has been called for 11am (Saturday) at the party office at Naya Paltan. (Party) acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will address it.”
However, a BNP leader, requesting anonymity, said the programme was suspended not for denial of police permission, but for the ruling Awami League’s rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka to be held at the same time.
He said the decision was made to avoid confrontation with the Awami League.
